What Matters and Why? (next post 4/16)

Do you have a list of sports or championships that "matter"? I've realized that I do. NFL, MLB, NBA and college football all "matter". The Major Championships in golf "matter". Some of the Olympic events "matter". State titles in some high school sports "matter" if they happen in the state where you live. State titles in Kansas and Missouri all matter now, but they didn't matter 2 years ago. Oh yeah, the Final Four matters too.

Of course, the flip side of this warped view of sports/life is that most of what we do doesn't really matter. I didn't realize that I believed that, but I did. Today is Good Friday, and I've been not so subtlely reminded that Jesus died an unspeakably gruesome, awful death for everyone who would ever live on this planet, regardless of how they feel about Him. What's more, because He is alive, because He rose from the dead, every minute of every day of my life is incredibly significant. Whether I'm coaching on TV or coaching flag football with 9 year olds, it all matters. And one doesn't matter more than the other. Because Jesus is alive, everyone we speak with, every thought we have, everything we see, absolutely everything we do, has importance. Because of Jesus, it all matters. Believe it.
